I Can Dream Anything

I Can Dream Anything was commissioned by Dulwich College, Beijing, especially for the Music, Dance, Art ad Drama festival finale 2018, under the leadership of Nina Haynes.

The festival theme was “Movie Magic!” And yes, the world premiere even featured pyrotechnics.

As a fan of cinema and film soundtracks Paul has composed a piece that pays tribute to the great ‘family friendly’ films of history and more importantly, honour the music and the composers who gave this legacy to the world. In the piece there are over forty much loved movies acknowledged and the music Paul has composed is inspired by the greats; Korngold, Steiner, Herrmann, Waxman, Morricone, Bernstein, Barry, Horner, Newman, Shore, Silvestri, Zimmer and of course the great John Williams.

Read the lyrics below and have a listen also to the digital recording. This piece is a wild ride through the history of cinema and will charm and entertain all ages. See if you can find your favourite movie!

Lyrics

I C A N D R E A M A N Y T H I N G

By PAUL JARMAN

I can fly my bike into the night
With an alien who longs for home
And I’ll glide on a moving castle
Until my heart is found

I can ride a whale where I belong
I can soar above old London town
And I’ll climb where the hills are alive with song
And the sound of music brings me hope

I’ll return the ring that rules them all
And I’ll fight for the freedom of this earth
And I’ll cast every spell that I’ve ever learned
For they say that I’m the chosen one

I can heal with my golden hair
I’m a Queen of the ice and snow
I can find the Goblin King
And I can live in Paris, in New York or Rome
It’s pure imagination, and I’ll dream

Take me to the place where dreams are born
To the sights and sounds of the silver screen
As the lights go out and the curtains open
I can dream anything, anything I can dare to dream

I can walk beside a dinosaur
And at night my toys all come to life
And I’ll swim to end of the ocean wide
And I’ll travel back and forth in time

I’m a singer in a famous band
I’m pirate with such a ghastly crew
I’m a girl falling down to a wonderland
I’m a boy who picks a pocket or two

I can sing in the rain
I can ride on a flying train
I can follow the yellow brick road
And I can learn how to use the force
And I will ride on dragon wings
To explore the universe and dare to dream
Anything I dare to dream
