Dreaming in the Sky

Dreaming in the Sky was commissioned by the South Australian Public Primary Schools Music Festival in 2007. Paul has been involved every year with this event since 2006 and has been honoured to write 9 pieces and various orchestrations and arrangements for them. The Festival proudly supports Australian artists and has commissioned works for decades. Each year no less than 12,000 singers form massed choirs for 12 concerts with a different orchestra each night. Every child in a state school in South Australia takes part.

Dreaming in the sky is from the song cycle, ‘Southern Sky’. Paul was inspired to celebrate a deeper understanding of the cosmos by researching Indigenous Australian connection to the cancellations. By learning the ways of Indigenous Australia we place relevance and meaning to our belonging.

Staring at the stars away from the city lights
Searching far and wide let your spirit fly
Everything is clear to see beyond the night sky
Looking out you will find the way to look back in

Our world is spinning through time and space
We journey together as one human race
The sun smiles upon us and the moon guides our path
Looking up we find our dreaming in the sky

Each culture has their dreaming for every constellation
Our knowledge of the cosmos comes from many different places
Hear and read the stories we’ve shared since our creation
Learning from each other we make a better world.
